5 Shows You Should Be Watching This Fall

There’s a lot of wonderful reasons to look forward to the fall (I mean, it’s not my favorite season for no reason). Cozy clothes, cool breezes, the colorful foliage, and pumpkin−well, everything. And best of all—besides all day marathons of Halloween on AMC—some of my favorite shows make a triumphant return! Perhaps I’m a sad soul but when The Walking Dead left me high and dry for half a year, I felt, well, sort of empty inside…

And if you’re like me—and admit it: you are— then you’re as excited as I am for the fall TV schedule to roll on in.

Here’s the top 5 shows to look forward to this fall (in my personal opinion):

1.) The Walking Dead

Walking Dead

I mean, we all knew I was going to start with this, right?

Fear the Walking Dead returned Sunday, August 21…but lets be honest, that show does not fill my Daryl lovin’ soul in any way. So I happily await the grand return of AMC’s the Walking Dead, October 23, 2016 at 9p. This is the big one folks. Earlier this year, we were left hanging in suspense (which drove some of us a little crazy, didn’t it?) when Negan had all of our favorite survivors lined up like sitting ducks. Whose face will greet Negan’s bloody thirsty bat, Lucille? If you read the comic, you may have the answer—unless, of course, in true Walking Dead fashion, Scott Gimple steers clear of the predictable and goes a different route, which happens quite often on this show; a factor that always keeps us on our toes. And that’s why, my dear friends: I love this show.

2.) American Horror Story: Season 6

AHS Season 6

I know how this looks: first, Walking Dead, now American Horror Story. I promise you: I’m not just full of doom and gloom all time…okay, maybe I am (but this list gets lighter as it goes, I swear!). Like, every new season of AHS, I anticipate what this season’s premise will be. I study every trailer and snippet of commercial: aliens? a nod to Manson? old school horror movies? What will those wacky, evil lovin’ writers come up with now? We’re still yet to find out, but it sure is fun to guess ($5 says they go with the old school horror film theme). Guess we’ll have to keep on guessing until the season premiere, Mon 9/14 at 10p on FX.

3.) Dancing with the Stars: Season 23

DANCING WITH THE STARS - "Episode 2110" - Four remaining couples advanced to the SEMI-FINALS on "Dancing with the Stars" on MONDAY, NOVEMBER 16 (8:00-10:01 p.m., ET). For the first time in "Dancing with the Stars" history, the couples have to dance three dances in the semi-finals: a dance style not yet danced, a trio, and a dance-off challenge, which is a recent edition. For the trio dance, couples picked a dancer to enhance their performance and highlight the strengths of each star. (ABC/Adam Taylor) CARRIE ANN INABA, JULIANNE HOUGH, BRUNO TONIOLI

See? Told you the list would get lighter. Doesn’t get much lighter than this fun filled dance-a-thon. I have to admit: dance shows and competitions shows in general are not really ‘my thing.’ (I think by now we established ‘my thing’ is doom and gloom), but I do enjoy this show, and it serves as a mutual ‘watch’ zone for me and my family. Hell, even my dad doesn’t mind it (perhaps that has to do with the hot female dancers in very skimpy costumes, but either way). The good news is; Maksim Chmerkovskiy is back this season! Well, that’s good news for me and most of the female population watching. The cast has yet to be announced this season, and although it’s too soon to tell for sure, rumor has it: good ol’ Olympic doof, Ryan Lochte, will be joining the cast. Lord knows he needs some good publicity after his gas station stunt. That alone is reason to watch (for laughs). Season 23 returns on Mon, 9/11 at 8p on ABC.

And if you don’t do the whole ‘dance’ thing but love a good sing off, you can wait until 9/19, flip over to CBS, and indulge in The Voice at 8p.

4.) Sunday Night Football

Football 2

This is a bit hypocritical of me to stick on the list and that’s because: I hate football. Well, hate’s a strong word. I just find it boring. I’m a hockey girl. But since I’m such a considerate person (your welcome), I wanted to take the sports lover’s feelings into consideration. I know Sunday night is a very exciting night for you. I know this because I have a boyfriend who (practically) ignores me every Sunday night…which is why I’m thankful that my favorite show comes on Sunday night (see no. 1). But I digress…get ready for some football: Sun, 9/11, 8:30p on NBC.

5.) The Blacklist

Blacklist

When we last left our favorite criminal and government agent turned fugitive, they were on the run. I have to be honest, the show dragged a bit for me–forever waiting for the moment when Red reveals if he’s really Elizabeth Keen’s dad. But when you invest in something for 3 seasons, you might as well see it through–am I right? Plus, James Spader is absolutely lovable as the charming Raymond Reddington. Maybe this will be the season that actually ties up the loose ends…or not. Either way, it’s good enough to keep us hanging on. Premieres 10p, Thursday 9/22 on NBC.

Honorable mentions go to:

9/19

  • Gotham–Fox, 8p
  • Marvel’s Agents of Shield–ABC, 10p
