Is your bedroom in need of a makeover? The best place to start is the wall color. With so many colors to choose from, it’s hard to know where to start.
Here are 5 tips to choose the perfect color palette for your bedroom.
- Limit your palette to 3 colors is a surefire strategy. This prevents a room from looking too monochromatic or too busy.
- Revert back to your days in art class and use a color wheel. Analogous color schemes (groups of 3 colors that are next to each other on the color wheel, sharing a common color) are always a safe bet.
- Not sure of which 3 colors to go with? If you like neutrals but think your room will fall flat, fear not: neutrals don’t have to be boring. Using 2 different neutrals will create a look that is visually interesting, then pair with an accent color that pops. Or, observe the clothes you wear. If there’s a color you prefer on yourself, this is a good place to start. If you wear a ton of black, go with a light gray, and add in the black with a printed wall paper or in the décor.
- Okay, so you have your 3 analogous colors. Now what? What color do I put where? Use the 60-30-10 ratio to ensure the colors you choose are properly balanced.
- 60% dominant wall color
- 30% upholstery
- 10% accent color
- Show your stuff. The the most important part of your bedroom is that it represents you. Posters, paintings, bold print, funky curtains or light and bright sheers–your bedroom should be a sanctuary of style.
