Quick Stain Removal Tips for the Holidays

It’s your turn to entertain for the holiday and you just received your new living room from Luthersales. Your house is decked out in the finest holiday decorations and everything is just perfect.

Well Uncle Joe and Auntie Nila have just rehashed their ongoing family feud and in process have spilled wine and alcohol all over your brand new sofa.  Well before your entire holiday gets ruined we have some simple tips to help in common stain removal.

When liquids like alcohol, wine or juice are spilled on your upholstery, the first thing you should do is get a clean absorbent cloth or paper towel and blot the stain picking up the majority of the stain and preparing it for cleaning. Next you should use a damp cloth with a fabric safe cleaning solution and blot the stain until  you see the stain subside.  Do not over saturate as this may cause the stain to spread.  Blot again to remove additional moisture.  Repeat if necessary and always make sure to check the furniture manufacturer  for cleaning ideas as well.

Most manufacturers have have simple codes that you can follow with regarding to cleaning your upholstery fabrics:

S- Solvent Clean (this is dry cleaning only)

W- Water Clean

WS- Water or Solvent Clean

X- No liquids, Vacuum Clean Only

Coffee or tea on our shirt or dress? Soak in cool water work in 1 teaspoon of liquid detergent and 1 tablespoon of vinegar. Do not use regular soap as it may make the stain permeant. Launder as usual. Be sure to read the tags on your clothing before laundering. If the item is dry cleanable, make sure you tell your cleaner exactly what type of stain it is.

Chocolate – Rinse the fresh stain with cool water and treat with laundry pre-treatment product, wait at least 30 minutes and launder in  the hottest water that is safe for the fabric.

Turkey Fat. Rinse the fresh stain with cool water and saturate with an aerosol pre-treatment laundry stain removal product. Laundry with detergent wash in hottest water that is safe for the fabric.

No matter what your stain dilemma there is a way to take care of the problem without ruining the holidays.
